How to get from Ishigaki Airport to Ishigaki Port

After you arrive at Ishigaki Airport by plane, you can transfer from the airport to the city center (around the Bus Terminal or Ishigaki Port) by bus, taxi or rental car. There are no trains running on Ishigaki Island.

Tips・It takes about 30 minutes by car from the airport to the city center.
・The city center is around Ishigaki Port.
・Contactless payment by credit card can be used for payment.

vs. Airport Line Bus comparison

There are two bus companies (Airport Line) that operate between Ishigaki Airport and Ishigaki Port.
・Azuma Bus (Route Bus)
・Karry Bus (Direct Bus)

One is the Azuma Bus, which operates route buses (Local) on Ishigaki Island.
The other is the Karry Bus, which operates only direct buses (airport limousine) to Ishigaki Airport and Ishigaki Port (city center).
The figure below summarizes how to take  the Azuma Bus and Karry Bus, as well as fares and riding times.

The money you can use on the bus is as follows.
1,000 yen bill, 500 yen coin, 100 yen coin, 50 yen coin, 10 yen coin.

Tips・You should take the bus that came
・There is no difference in boarding time and fares between these.

However, if you plan to go sightseeing on Ishigaki Island by bus, the Azuma Bus, where you can use Bus Pass, is a good choice. In addition, if you plan to go to a remote island, the Azuma Bus is a good choice because you can get a ferry discount ticket on the bus.

Route Bus (Azuma Bus) Airport Line Schedule

This is a line connecting Ishigaki Airport and the city center (around Bus Terminal or Ishigaki Port).

This bus is operated on a schedule that is in time for the first and last flight of the plane.

Route 4 and 10 with “Airport” written on the side of the blue bus are the route buses of the Airport Line.
In addition to these routes, there are route buses that go to the city center (around Bus Terminal or Ishigaki Port) via the airport. Therefore, we created a list of bus schedules in the figure below.
However, the bus to ANA InterContinental Hotel or Art Hotel is only Route 10.

Direct Bus (Karry Bus) Schedule

Karry Bus operates a direct bus that connects Ishigaki Airport and Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal.

The operating hours are not in time for the first departure and last arrival flights of the plane.

The feature of the bus is an red bus with a check pattern (*Minsa pattern).

*Minsa is a traditional checkered pattern on Ishigaki Island. Therefore, this pattern is also used in buildings and souvenirs on the island. The meaning of the check pattern is eternal happiness.

The bus stop at Ishigaki Airport is about 20m to the left from the center exit.
When you exit the domestic flight arrival gate, you will see the center exit (pictured below) in front of you. The center exit is characterized by a large wall called “Himpun” that has the meaning of amulet.

There is only one arrival gate at the domestic terminal at Ishigaki Airport.

The bus stop is on the left side of the exit, Azuma Bus ‘A’, Azuma Bus ‘B’, and the farthest is Karry Bus ‘C’.

There is only one bus stop for Karry Bus at the airport, which is the farthest bus stop ‘C’.

There are two Azuma Bus stops at the airport. The bus stop is decided by the route number as shown in the figure below. The bus stop for the Airport Lines (Route 4 and 10), which operates about every 30 minutes, is ‘A’. Therefore, in most cases you will use Bus Stop ‘A’.

Discount ticket information for Karry Bus

Roundtrip-ticket

Sales of this ticket ended in March 2023.

Karry Bus operates a direct bus that connects the Ishigaki Airport and the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal. This bus has a round-trip discount ticket. If you pay the fare for this section one way, it costs 500 yen, but you can buy this round-trip ticket for 900 yen. This ticket has no expiration date.

Azuma Bus, which operates a route bus, and Karry Bus are different companies.

Therefore, this round-trip ticket can only be used on the Karry Bus. Azuma Bus sells its own round-trip ticket.

 How to buy 
This ticket can be bought from the bus driver when you get on the bus.
From 2022, you can pre-purchase it on the app and board without a ticket.

 How to use 
The ticket is a set of two, and if you give the ticket to the driver when you get on the bus, one will be cut off.

It seems that this coupon is no longer distributed. (May 2021)

This coupon is not a discount on Karry Bus fare, but a discount on ferry fare or remote island tour fee when going to remote islands such as Taketomi Island and Iriomote Island.

There are several companies in the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal that sell tours of remote islands. Hirata Tourism is one of them. Hirata Tourism sells remote island tours and ferry tickets to remote islands, and you can get a discount on these prices with this coupon.

 How to get it 
This coupon is placed in the leaflet area behind the driver’s seat on the Karry Bus, and you can get it freely. Everyone in your group can get a discount with this one coupon.

 How to use 
You can get a discount by submitting this coupon when you apply for a tour or buy a ferry ticket at the Hirata Tourism counter in the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal.


How to take a taxi at the airport

If you take a taxi from Ishigaki Airport to the city center (around Bus Terminal or Ishigaki Port), the riding time is about 25 minutes and the fare is about 3,500 yen.

There is a taxi stand at the airport, where taxis will stay until the last flight of the plane arrives.

TipsIf your flight arrives after 7:00pm, we recommend making a reservation. After that time, there are few taxis at the taxi stand.

Most taxis on the island are 5-seater sedans, and few minivans. Therefore, if you have a lot of baggage or a large group, you need to make a reservation.

Payment methods vary by taxi company and vehicle. In some cases you can use a credit card, in other cases you can only use cash. Please check before taking a taxi or when making a reservation.

How to rent a car at the airport

Rental car pickup point at the airport

If you book a rental car, many car rental companies will pick you up at the airport. Then the car rental staff will take you to the shop by shuttle car.
The photo above is the pick-up point for the rental car.

If you haven’t booked a rental car, you can still rent a car on the day.

There are many car rental companies about 10 minutes walk from the airport.

But we recommend you to book a rental car and come to Ishigaki Island. Rental cars are full and you may not be able to rent a car. There are many car rental companies on Ishigaki Island, but many travelers visit the island and rent a car, especially during the summer season.
