Welcome to Funauki Area

Iriomote Island has a Funauki area in the southwestern part of the island, which is isolated from other areas. There is only one village in the jungle, there is no way to connect to other areas and it is a place that can only be reached by ferry. It’s a difficult place to access, but it’s a small village with some restaurants and guesthouses.
The beach in the Funauki area is Ida Beach. The Ida Beach is the destination for many visitors to the Funauki area. Because this area can only be reached by ferry, the beautiful beaches are preserved, which attracts many people.
There are some restaurants in the Funauki area, but there are no supermarkets. If you want to eat light meals such as sandwiches on the Ida Beach, you should buy them before you go to Funauki.
In addition, there are no trash cans in the Funauki area. You should bring a garbage bag.
How to get to the Funauki area
The only way to get to the Funauki area is by ferry. Ferries operate daily between Funauki Port and Shirahama Port in the western part of Iriomote Island. This ferry is the only way to get there.
The boarding time between Shirahama Port and Funauki Port is short, about 10 minutes, but since there are only 5 ferries a day, you should make a plan before you go.
