Island Countryside Settlement

Taketomi Island

This beautiful village is the most famous tourist attraction on Taketomi Island. The village is located almost in the center of the island, about a 15 minutes walk from Taketomi Port.

This village is famous for its scenery of traditional Okinawan houses with red roofs. There are no modern buildings in the village of the island, the buildings are unified with traditional red roofs, and colorful flowers bloom along the white sand road made of coral fragments.

Many visitors to Taketomi Island take a buffalo tour to see the beautiful village.

If you want to see a panoramic view of the village, we recommend the Nagomi Tower. The photo above was taken from the Nagomi Tower.

Kondoi Beach

Kondoi Beach

It is the only beach on Taketomi Island where you can swim. It is shallow and there are no waves, so even small children can swim safely. There are also showers and toilets, so you can swim in the sea.

This beach is not a coral reef, so it’s better for swimming than snorkeling. There is no place to buy food and drink here, so bring your own it.

This beach is shallow, so if you want to swim in the sea, it’s best to go to high tide.
However, we recommend seeing the phantom island (Sand Island) that appears at low tide. To get to the phantom island, you need a swimsuit, but you can walk from the beach. The sand island that appear offshore only at low tide are very beautiful.
