Funakura no sato (Okinawan Cuisine)

It is a restaurant where you can eat Okinawan cuisine in a traditional Okinawan house. There are 3 restaurants (traditional cuisine, cafe, grilled eel and Tonkatsu) and a souvenir shop on the large grounds.
This restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but dinner time is recommended. There is a Sanshin* and song performance service every night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and you can enjoy traditional performing arts while eating Okinawan cuisine. There are many families, and children can also enjoy it.

*Yaeyama soba
This is a traditional noodle from the area around Ishigaki Island. The characteristic of the soba is that it has pork on it.
Yaeyama soba is made with different ingredients from Japanese soba and tastes completely different. Japanese soba is made from buckwheat flour, and Yaeyama soba is made from flour.
**Mozuku
Mozuku is a thread-like seaweed. In Okinawan cuisine, mozuku is pickled in vinegar or made into tempura.
***Jimami tofu
Jimami tofu is a peanut tofu. It is made from peanuts and sweet potatoes. Jimami tofu is different from normal tofu in that it has a sweet taste. It’s like an Okinawan dessert.

It is open from 6:30 in the morning, and many people go there for breakfast. Business hours are until 3:00pm, but it will close when sold out, so it is recommended to go early. In addition, you can’t make a reservation, so you should go here with plenty of time. When we went around 9 o’clock, there was already a sold out day.

Yushi Tofu is a traditional Okinawan dish, and its manufacturing process is different from normal tofu. The characteristic of Yushi Tofu is that it is softer than normal tofu.
Yushi Tofu is made from soy. Therefore it is recommended dish for vegan too.
When you order the “Yushi Tofu set”, you will be served tofu, rice and soy milk. The amount of tofu is quite large.
The tofu is warm and has no added flavor. Add special miso or soy sauce to it to suit your taste. In addition, you can order toppings such as omelet and seaweed.

It may be the most popular cafe on Ishigaki Island. It is a cafe with a view of the sea, close to the city center. You can eat dishes using Ishigaki Island vegetables while looking at the sea.
This cafe is fashionable and cute interiors and popular with Japanese tourists. The parking lot is always full with rental cars.
The café has only indoor seats, and you can see the sea from the counter seats by the window. Breakfast while looking at the sea is also a good choice. There aren’t many restaurants on Ishigaki Island where you can eat breakfast, but this cafe is open from the morning.
We went to have lunch. Then, we ate “Vegetables and Tofu meat Taco Rice* ” and “Yushi Tofu waffle special”.
*Taco Rice is a traditional Okinawan dish of Mexican taco ingredients on rice.
Taco Rice was full of cheese and colorful vegetables and had a satisfying amount. A lot of rich cheese is on the dish, but the hot sauce is a good accent and it was delicious until we finished eating it.
Yushi Tofu waffles don’t taste like tofu. It is a waffle topped with various fruits, whipped cream, and ice cream.
Both of these were colorful looking, plentiful amount and delicious.
You have to take off your shoes to enter the cafe. Therefore, you can experience like entering a Japanese house.

If you go by route bus, the nearest bus stop is “Maezato Koen”. However, there are only two buses a day here, so you will probably have to walk from the “Hirae higashi” bus stop.
There is a cafe called “PUFF PUFF” next to this cafe. Like “Re:Hellow BEACH”, this cafe is a popular cafe with a view of the sea. Re:Hellow BEACH has a lively atmosphere. If you prefer a calm atmosphere, PUFF PUFF is recommended.
